The UK Charity Commission and the National Council for Voluntary Bodies have agreed to draw up guidelines for trustees to help them determine levels of pay for executive staff.
Chief Executive of NCVO, Sir Stuart Etherington said that it would identify a small group of charity chairs that would work with the Commission to draw up the guidance document.
Welcoming the initiative, a spokesperson from the Commission said it “would be happy to be involved in a process that supports trustees to fulfil their duties when making decisions.”
The decision comes in the wake of media criticism of the salaries of some prominent charity Chief Executives in the UK.
Etherington said “I believe definitive guidance would be a useful resource for trustees and would help give the public confidence that salaries have been properly considered. I’m pleased the commission are responding positively to our proposal to work together on this.”
