A survey conducted by ‘Getting on Board’ a UK based organisation which promotes board-level volunteering, found that 51% of the public in the UK do not know what a charity trustee is.

Chair of the Charity Commission, Dame Suzi Leather commented:

“Clearly the charity sector needs to do more to explain what a charity trustee is so that people realise what a fantastic opportunity it can be to make a real difference. Trustees are the driving force behind every great charity and are responsible for making decisions about a charity’s direction and activity.”

Counter to popular belief, the survey also revealed that almost twice as many 18-34 year-olds as over 55 year-olds are interested in becoming board members.

These findings are the result of over 2,000 online interviews conducted throughout the UK.
